Work in Progress Season 2

WORK IN PROGRESS

Created by Abby McEnany and Tim Mason, “Work in Progress” is an American comedy-drama television series written and executive produced by McEnany, Mason, and Lilly Wachowski, and directed by Mason starring McEnany in a semi-autobiographical role alongside Karin Anglin, Celeste Pechous, Julia Sweeney (as a fictionalized version of herself), and Theo Germaine.

The show follows Abby, a 45-year-old–self-identified fat, queer dyke–whose misfortune and despair unexpectedly lead her to a vibrantly transformative relationship. Chicago improv mainstay Abby McEnany co-created and stars in this uniquely human comedy series. This season will have Celeste Pechous, Armand Fields, Karin Anglin, Bruce Jarchow, Theo Germaine, and Julia Sweeney.

After almost two years of waiting, Showtime confirms the premiere date of the new season and is set to air on Sunday, August 22, 2021, on Showtime.

The new season finds Abby in the wake of a breakup and begrudgingly accepting that she’s too busy to kill herself. In fact, she’s just starting to get her head above water when a global pandemic forces Abby into uncharted territory.

“The thing about our show is it’s not all palatable queers,” McEnany told IndieWire during a recent interview. “For middle America or whatever America, I’m not a palatable queer. Right? I’m this fat, loud, grey-haired, masculine, queer dyke who’s a mess. But the goal of this show is, hopefully — for folks out there that feel isolated — to show that there’s a life out there without shame, and just stick in there.”
