Saudi Aramco might be lying about its oil infrastructure damage

One of the biggest news of this year was the attack that recently took place at Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Aramco oil manufacturing facilities. Now, these attacks were big and made a huge impact because about 10% of the world’s supply of oil comes from Saudi Arabia. These attacks meant that the half of Saudi Aramco’s oil manufacturing was disrupted. Therefore, the global supply of half of the oil too a hit and the Saudi facility says that they will be able to get back to full potential by the end of this month.

However, a new report claims that this might not be the case and that the Saudi Aramco plant, as well as Saudi Arabia officials, are hiding the truth. It is said that the repairs at the Khurais field and the Abqaiq processing facility may take several months rather than the ten weeks tops which the company earlier estimated.

As per Wall Street Journal’s report, Aramco is “in urgent talks with equipment manufacturers and service providers and is willing to pay premium rates for faster delivery and installation”. However, that might not be enough because the equipment needs to be manufactured, delivered and installed which could take several weeks if not months. WSJ says that this could take as long as a year and it is not possible to complete the work in weeks.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman said more than half of the lost production had been restored. By the end of September, he added, Saudi Arabia would have 11 million BPD in production capacity and by the end of November, it would have 12 million BPD. However, WSJ sources reveal that this is not likely to be the case as the equipment that will replace the one destroyed by the attacks would have to be made to measure, and this takes time.
