Indonesia’s platform for e-commerce logistics, Shipper, raises $5 million

We have seen that one of the biggest industries that is rising in this time of a weak economy is e-commerce. There was a time when e-commerce was believed to be a curse to the economy. However, we are now seeing that one of the economy boosters has emerged as e-commerce. While we say the word e-commerce, the word Amazon almost comes instantly to our minds.
However, we must tell you that Amazon is not the only e-commerce platform out there in the industry which you might already be aware about. Having said that, we do agree that Amazon is the biggest e-commerce platform globally and there are no two ways about that statement.
Now, e-commerce is one thing while the products that are sold by e-commerce have to be delivered to the customers as well. That is where logistics partners come into existence and we are going to talk about one of them from Indonesia. According to a report by TechCrunch, we know that the Indonesian e-commerce market is one of the fastest-growing markets globally. But it is seen that the e-commerce logistics market is very fragmented there.
So a new startup, Shipper, has emerged in Indonesia which is very ambitious and promises its customers “Amazon-level logistics”. Apart from that promise, Shipper is also on the rise when it comes to funding too. Because we have just been told that Shipper has “raised $5 million in seed funding from Lightspeed Ventures, Floodgate Ventures, Insignia Ventures Partners and Y Combinator”
As we mentioned earlier, the e-commerce logistics market in Indonesia is very fragmented and the services are also not up to the mark. Shipper’s mission is to “create a platform that makes the process of fulfilling and tracking orders much more efficient”. As per a recent report, Shipper was launched in 2017 by co-founders Phil Opamuratawongse and Budi Handoko and is now used by more than 25,000 online sellers.
